QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
Invest in quality clothing. Higher quality lasts longer because they are constructed with stronger materials and are made to stand the test of time. Therefore, they can withstand multiple washes and wear.
WASH LESS
Washing garments too often can cause damage to the fibres and decrease the lifespan. If an item isn’t dirty but just needs freshening up, try hanging it outside or in a steamy bathroom to breath first.
WASH AT LOWER TEMPERATURES
Wash clothes at a low temperature with a gentle and natural laundry detergent to keep the fabric clean and soft, and to prevent colour fading.
PAY ATTENTION TO CARELABLES
Pay careful attention to the instructions on the label, which advise you on the maximum recommended temperature an item should be washed at. Different materials need different approaches to laundering. Wool, for instance, should only be washed when absolutely needed, using a specific wool detergent on a gentle cycle or handwash.
MINIMIZE DRY CLEANING
Dry cleaning is a highly chemical intensive process that has negative environmental impacts and can have a negative effect on textiles fibres and consumers’ skin. Where dry cleaning is the only option for the garment, look for environmentally friendly cleaners offering non-toxic and ‘eco’ cleaning services
WASH INSIDE OUT
Wash clothes inside out and avoid overfilling when machine washing. This can cause friction and damage the fibres. Always empty the machine right after it is finished to avoid the clothes to wrinkle.
AIR DRY
Not only does it smell great, but air drying is also better for your clothes and the planet. Tumble drying uses a lot of energy and can also damage certain fibres. Instead, shake out your clothes and hang to air dry. Knitwear however must never hang dry as it will stretch. Instead lay it flat to dry.
TAKING CARE OF YOUR CLOTHES, IS TAKING CARE OF THE PLANET
